About RainCityKnits
RainCityKnits is a tiny dye-studio nestled in the quaint town of Nelson, British Columbia. We combine super bright colours with high-quality yarn bases for discriminating knitters, crocheters and other fibre-folks.
However, our story began all the way back in 2011 on the West Coast of Canada.
RainCityKnits was born out of a love of bright colours - an antidote to the the endless grey season that defines the Pacific Northwest (if you know, you know!)
You see, back in 2011 RainCityKnits was a bit of an anomaly with our focus on playful colourways. Our cheerful colour palette soon earned us a cult following among those with similar persuasions and soon after we moved from Krista's tiny kitchen to a small studio in Vancouver's historic Chinatown neighbourhood.
During this period we were thrilled to collaborate with other BC-based fibre enthusiasts on a number of projects. Working with knitwear designers Holli Yeoh, Tin Can Knits and The Red Fox and Gown, dyeing the custom colourway for Knit Social's Knit City Vancouver 2015 and creating art installations for a Gastown yoga studio are a few highlights.
In 2017, RainCityKnits went on indefinite hiatus due to a shortage of affordable studio space in Vancouver and the future looked uncertain.
Following a move to the picturesque Selkirk Mountains in 2023, RainCityKnits is back in action!
We are so thrilled to be dyeing for you once again!
